Sit down and enjoy the dew. And the scent of the wet leaves and damp earth.

On finding balance...

On finding balance between knowing today could be my last.
And the likelihood that it is not:

I set goals of kindness, not of accomplishments. But find joy in individual actions; the puzzle pieces that, if I live long enough, will make a whole.

Because with each passing day, my likelihood changes.

One Billion Dollars

Every human needs to have a need.

Something to shoot for.

For most, those needs are temporal. Mundane.

They keep us busy from birth until we die.

For others, needs must be created.

If you had one billion dollars, what needs would your create for yourself?

Now forget the money.

This is a good place to begin your life.

Through Darkness

It's not that you can't see light in the dark. In fact, in the darkness, it's easiest to see light. But creating light in the midst of darkness usually means that first, there is abject darkness. It's during that abject darkness that we rely on our other senses to guide us to the source of the light. 

We stand still. We listen. We feel. We sense. And eventually we find the candle and a match.

Time

Time.

Fleeting, but it's all we've got.

Be Careful

Be Careful.

Two of the most insidious, demoralizing, soul-crushing words in the English language. They are manifestations of the speaker's own anxieties and failures and teach us to fear the unknown. It is a transference of a type of neurosis, however well-intended.

Next time someone says: "Be Careful!" Ask, "Of what?"

Two Sides to the Same Coin

As I cast off many of the excess exertions with which I've gotten myself engaged, those that don't feed my soul or bring me closer to my dreams, and exchange them for those that do, I am simultaneously faced with the prospect of adding the one immense commitment to my roster that, once engaged, is not so easily cast off.

There's a difference between the hesitancy of deep, soulish reservation and the hesitancy of seriousness, of commitment and soberness. I've experienced them both in my lifetime and know well the difference, though they often look and feel very similar. The reservation looks the same from the outside. But it's the quiet, still times that help me know the difference; to feel the instinctual pull that separates the hesitancy of knowing what's not right for me from the hesitancy of correct destiny.

Courage is nothing without fear.

Creating A New Status Quo

One of the most difficult aspects of charting new territory is manipulating the tried and true to fit one's vision.

If what you're doing has never been done in quite the way that you envision it, then new systems and new methodologies are often required.

This means not only sharing your vision and winning over others, but helping those who want to assist you to make necessary adjustments to their status quo thinking. Being brave enough to try something different and throw out what just won't work in your new landscape.

This is not as easy as it sounds. For the visionary or for those who believe in her.

The Satisfaction of...

Not stressing. Any time I try (and fail), I learn something new.

And the failing is a way to understand more about myself, my dreams and to reinvigorate my focus.

Which means a failure is never a failure after all.

Anticipation

I've never given birth to a baby.

I decided when I was 19 that child-bearing was not for me. I've never regretted that decision. But I have subsequently given birth to many ideas and ventures.

Today I sit at the precipice of yet another. And I imagine it may be more like having a baby than I think.

Not knowing what's in store; having little control over the outcome after months (or years) of hard work; the excitement blended with a healthy dose of fear and a drop of adrenaline.

I imagine I've had a few babies in my lifetime.

Doing things differently isn't new to me

Doing things differently isn't new to me.

Neither is taking a risk.

But it never gets easier, does it?
